The Best Things to Do in North Carolina in November
Annual Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Surf Fishing Tournament
Grab your fishing pole and head out to the beach for the Annual Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Surf Fishing Tournament! The rules are simple: all fish must be caught on foot (from the surf, pier, inlet, or sound). The tournament stretches from Fort Macon to Emerald Isle. Once you’ve caught your entry, take it to Reel Outdoors, a fishing outlet that’s just a short drive from Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier. Registration for this competition is totally free and the top three anglers will receive an awesome prize!
While there are plenty of great fishing spots in the area, two of our favorites are The Point and Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier. The Point is Emerald Isle’s western-most section, where the shore tapers off into a sandbar. Night fishing is especially popular around this area during the summer, though we wouldn’t suggest it in the fall when the weather can drop to around 44 degrees. If you’ve never gone fishing on Emerald Isle before, Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier is the perfect spot for you. When you purchase a fishing pass from the pier, you won’t need a North Carolina fishing license. This is a great option for out-of-state anglers! Parking is free for anyone fishing and the prices are very reasonable. Their website has great tips and fishing reports that are both educational and entertaining. Stop by either of these Emerald Isle staples!
Annual Emerald Isle Christmas Parade
The Saturday after Thanksgiving brings the Annual Emerald Isle Christmas Parade! Celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season with carols, cider, snacks, the tree lighting, and even a visit from Santa Claus! The parade itself is always a fun time. You’ll see floats, marching bands, decorated boats, fire trucks, and more! Your kids will love catching the swag and candy the parade-goers throw from their vehicles. You’ll love getting a peek at the local talent, from the band to the beautifully decorated floats.
Stay at Spinnaker’s Reach
The very best thing to do in North Carolina in November (or any other month of the year) is to stay in a Spinnaker’s Reach vacation home. Whether you’re having a huge Thanksgiving event with extended family or you’re enjoying a quiet getaway with the kids, Spinnaker’s Reach has the perfect home!
If you want to go and get away from it all, go down to Kokomoe! This wonderful four-bedroom, four-bathroom duplex is just one street away from the ocean! It comes complete with a golf cart, use of the community pool, and community beach access. The ground level of the home features a laundry room with full-sized washer and dryer as well as the bunk room, which offers a bunk bed and a private bath. The second level offers the other three bedrooms. The Master Bedroom suite is gorgeous. It comes with a luxurious king bed, a soaking tub, a standing shower, and a private balcony. The third floor is our favorite. It has an open floor-plan and features the kitchen, living room, and a deck that’s perfect for a relaxing nap. Best of all, this home is pet-friendly, so the whole family can come on vacation.
