An Introduction to NC Surf Fishing
There are a ton of great fishing opportunities on Emerald Isle. While many visitors head to Bogue Inlet Pier for a day of fishing, true surf fishing means feet in the sand. Any spot along the shoreline should provide plenty of fish during the changing of the tides. Make sure you’re staying in one of our incredible oceanfront homes for easy access to the beach. If you’re trying to decide the best time to surf fish in Emerald Isle, the Atlantic Beach Fishing Report is a great resource. Before you head out, make sure you have your North Carolina fishing license!
Enter an NC Surf Fishing Tournament
Are you ready to take on some competition? Then you’ll definitely want to register for one of the local fishing tournaments.
The Founder Surf Fishing Tournament takes place every year at the start of surf fishing season. The rules are simple: All flounder must be caught by fishing on foot, either in the surf, pier, inlet, or sound. The contest stretches from Emerald Isle to Fort Macon. Registration starts around mid-August, and the contest runs from mid-to-end September. It’s totally free to sign up, and there are some great prizes for the top three anglers.
Another option for a surf fishing tournament is the Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Surf Fishing Tournament. The bounty here is speckled trout, and the contest runs from mid-October to the end of November. Just like the Flounder Surf Fishing Tournament, everything must be caught on foot, and the contest stretches to Fort Macon. Registration is free, so don’t miss your chance to earn a prize!
Stay with Spinnaker’s Reach
If you’re planning on fishing at Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier, consider renting Sanctuary, which is just a seven-minute drive away from the pier! This three-story house includes a rec room, five bedrooms, and a living area that encompasses the third floor. The third floor is our favorite part of the house because this is where you get the best view of our beautiful Atlantic Ocean. This property rents weekly, Saturday to Saturday, and also features a private pool, foosball table, and two adult beach cruisers with helmets available during the summer season.
