Do you ever wonder how Emerald Isle got its name? As the story goes, the original developers of the town flew a consultant over the property to get a good look at the island. Upon seeing the gorgeous, lush green trees surrounded by sparkling water, the developer was inspired to name it Emerald Isle. Discover that rich greenery for yourself! Visit Emerald Isle Woods Park during your stay with Spinnaker’s Reach.

Visit Emerald Isle Woods Park
Entering Emerald Isle Woods Park is like stepping back in time. You’ll get a glimpse of how Emerald Isle must have looked when it was completely undeveloped, covered in dense trees. In total, the park stretches over 41 acres of forest. There’s something for everyone inside the park, from hiking trails to a disc golf course to a pier where anglers can cast a line.
Explore the Park
Surrounding the border of the park is the most popular trail, which is about 1 mile long. It’s not a difficult trail, though you’ll definitely want to wear sneakers or boots rather than flip-flops. This trail will take you in a circle, tracing the edge of the park. This is one of our favorite hiking trails on Emerald Isle, NC, so don’t miss out on traversing this fun path!
Get Your Game On
Fans of disc golf will be happy to hear that there is a fantastic course in the park. There are nine holes within the Emerald Isle Woods Park Disc Golf course. The first tee is right near the main parking lot, so it’s very easy to find. If you’ve never played disc golf before, it’s easy! Just like traditional golf, the goal is to get in the hole in as little tries as possible. The main difference is you’re using a frisbee instead of a golf ball and club, and the hole is a platform in which you toss the disc. Make sure you take advantage of this great course during your visit to Emerald Isle Woods Park!
Enjoy the Pier
There’s also a pier that extends into the channel. It’s a nice, quiet spot that’s perfect for fishing or bird watching. There’s also a floating dock at the end of the pier. Grab a kayak and explore the channel! (Check our Vacation Guide if you need a suggestion on where to go to rent a kayak.)
