What to Know Before Your First Time Visiting Emerald Isle

Emerald Isle is a small barrier island town on the westernmost tip of the Crystal Coast. The biggest draws to the area include the 12 gorgeous miles of pristine beach and the comfortable, quiet feel of the community. You won’t find chain restaurants and flashy amusement parks here. Instead, your family will be able to put away modern distractions and concentrate on spending quality time together. Emerald Isle is where families make memories that last a lifetime.

What to Do During Your Emerald Isle Getaway

Go Fish

Fishing is a time-honored tradition around these parts! It’s no mystery why since Emerald Isle was once a small fishing village. Surf fishing is most common, thanks to the 12 miles of shoreline. Guests of Spinnaker’s Reach can enjoy more space to cast their lines thanks to the private beach along Coast Guard Road available to those who stay with us. Just remember to get your North Carolina fishing license before you start! If you don’t have one but still want to cast your line, head to the Bogue Inlet Pier. Purchase a fishing pass from this local icon, and you’ll be able to reel one in from the pier without a license. Parking is free for fishermen, though you may decide that you’d rather take advantage of one of the nearby paved paths and bike here. Some of our homes, like Ribbit, come with bicycles available to renters!

Kayak the Waters of the Bogue Inlet

One of our favorite ways to go sightseeing around town is by spending a warm afternoon kayaking. Head to Hot Wax Surf & Paddle Sports to rent a kayak. You can purchase their self-guided rental excursion package, which accommodates double, single, and angler kayaks. Island Water Sports is another agency in town. If you give them at least 24 hours of notice, they’ll deliver and pick up the equipment from your rental house!
